Groceries & Cooking

I'm happy to report I went to two grocery stores last week - Meijer and Trader Joe's - and have enough food in the house for a couple of weeks! Not to shabby.

Yesterday we made pancakes and chicken apple sausages for breakfast and had the mexican crockpot chicken on taco salads for dinner.

Lot's of cooking lined up but only one new recipe - the pasta carbonara I never made from a few weeks ago.

Can't wait for grilling weather, even though it snowed today. :-(

  1. Hello!
I have not checked your blog muc lately but FYI here's a recipe we tried last week. It was easy enough and pretty good although not to die for. Just depends on how many different forms you want to try chicken in. :)

I also made a quiche last night which is very easy and great to bring for lunch all week and of course you can do many meat or veggie combos. I have a handwritten recipe at home so let me know if you think you'd try and I will send.

We are also trying a collard green recipe tomorrow as we are on the hunt for ways to get "dark, leafy greens" in our diet...will let you know how that turns out.

  2. Another thought... personally I enjoy the cooking so I kind of like the process of going through the magazines, paper, etc. and finding new recipes. I usually pull them as I see them and then once a week (Sat or Sun am) I go to my "file" and select the "new" one for that week. I make a list of meals and a shopping list and then head to store. If you have angst about the grocery store part you could try to be structured...personally I go to Kroger every Sunday just to get the basics no matter how much or how little we need. Then, about every other week I rotate in Trader Joe's or Whole Foods in additiona for the couple of items I only get there. I also put "the husband" in charge of all returnables so I don't have to deal with that. And treat myself to a nice big DC on the way to the store to make it more enjoyable (you could do a fancy coffee). Just my thoughts - may help make the whole process more palatable. :)

  3. I have an adversion to quiche - scared for life from high school cafeteria experiences. I should give it another try though.

I like your ideas about putting some structure around grocery shopping. I do need to get in the habit of going for staples once a week.

My husband won't do the returnables. He and the glass container machines do not get along. I usually send him in with the list while I return bottles.

  4. Also, we like to go out to dinner first and have a beer. Takes the edge of and not shopping hungry. I don't go alone very often. Guess I like to spread the pain around! ;-)
